Notational Variants and Cognition: The Case of Dependency Grammar

Abstract In recent years, dependency grammars have established themselves as valuable tools in theoretical and computational linguistics. To many linguists, the more standard constituency-based formalisms are notational variants. We argue that, beyond considerations of formal equivalence, cognition may also serve a background for genuine comparison between these different views syntax. this paper, we review evaluate some most common arguments evidence employed to advocate cognitive or neural reality linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics. then raise possibility that abilities represent track, alternatively parallel, constituency structures co-exist human constitutive syntactic competence.
